Salon Spotlight: Brazilian Wood Therapy Massage -A Modern Wellness Ritual with SKH Beauty
If you have wandered through Mayfair or the West End recently, you may have passed SKH Beauty.
A discreet but luxurious clinic where modern aesthetics meet ancient wellness. Among its many sought-after treatments is wood therapy (also known as Maderotherapy or Brazilian massage). We are sure there are some other names. This centuries-old technique may offer revitalising and sculpting effects.
We were curious about this holistic massage technique, so we had to learn more about how SKH Beauty combines ancient traditions with modern treatments.
As you might expect, the treatment uses specially designed wooden tools, but there’s no need to worry, they’re much gentler than they appear.
The treatment is a deeply therapeutic, firm massage designed for both wellness and body contouring.
Before we explore the technique and uses, meet the woman behind the brand.
Q&A with Sumera Hussain, CEO & Founder
What inspired you to start SKH Beauty, Wellness & Aesthetics? Did a personal experience shape your vision?
"SKH Beauty was born out of a passion for holistic well-being and the desire to offer high-performance treatments in a calm, luxurious environment. I saw a gap in the market for a clinic that brought together both clinical expertise and wellness practices under one roof. A space where you could receive advanced treatments while also being cared for emotionally and energetically."
How soon after opening your first clinic did you launch your second?
"We first launched in Ealing, and after seeing consistent growth and an incredible client response, we decided to expand into Mayfair four years later. Growing our business was always part of the vision; it was the support and demand from our community that made expansion feel like a natural next step."
SKH Beauty has since expanded to Regent Street, Dubai, and is soon to expand to Saudi Arabia, with all locations offering wood therapy.
What is wood therapy?
"Wood therapy is a natural, non-invasive, non-surgical body contouring technique that uses sculpted wooden tools to stimulate circulation, break down fat and cellulite, and support lymphatic drainage. It offers therapeutic and aesthetic benefits, helping you feel the benefits inside and out."
SKH Beauty chose Brazilian wood therapy for its deeply relaxing qualities and because it aligns with the belief of treating the whole person, with many clients who get the treatment reporting benefits such as improved skin tone, reduced bloating, and a lasting sense of relaxation.
Over the last 4 years, have you seen interest grow?
"Interest has grown dramatically, and people are more mindful of what they put in and on their bodies. Clients are becoming more proactive about their wellness, and these treatments offer both aesthetic and health benefits."
Why is it popular in summer?
"In summer months, people naturally want to feel lighter, more toned, and energised, and these treatments deliver just that."
LYCON in SKH beauty:
What products do you pair with wood therapy?
"We pair our wood therapy treatments with LYCON Massage Oils."
Why LYCON?
"We use a range of LYCON Waxing Products and Massage Oils. Their formulations are gentle yet effective, making them ideal for clients with sensitive skin. The quality is unmatched, and Beauty Triangle International support the professional, results-driven experience we strive to offer."
How do LYCON oils enhance wood therapy?
"They deeply hydrate the skin, enhance glide, improve elasticity, and help reduce inflammation, complementing the sculpting effect and creating a truly indulgent treatment."
Massage combinations:
Do you combine wood therapy with other offerings?
"Absolutely. One of our most popular combinations is wood therapy followed by lymphatic drainage or body wraps. When we pair these treatments, it amplifies the detoxifying and sculpting results."
For someone considering their first session, what can they expect?
"A deeply relaxing yet stimulating treatment tailored to them. Clients often report feeling lighter, less bloated, and more energised straight away."
While wood therapy has not undergone scientific testing, many clients report visible and sensory benefits. Wood therapy, being non-invasive, could be worth experiencing to see if it suits you.
Questions for an entrepreneur:
Biggest challenge and proudest success?
"One of the biggest challenges has been maintaining balance. Running a business, leading a team, and still showing up with passion every day. "
"My proudest success is just that: building a team and a brand to be proud of. Seeing clients return and trust us year after year is the greatest reward."
Daily rituals to stay grounded?
"Absolutely! We practice yoga together as a team at the clinic, and it has become a regular part of our weekly catch-ups and meetings. Yoga is a great way to reset, reconnect, and stay grounded amidst the busy day-to-day."
Best advice received?
"Don’t rush the process. Growth takes time, and staying true to your vision builds longevity and trust."
Maintaining core values while expanding internationally?
"By staying deeply connected to our values, we maintain authenticity, results, and client care. As we grow, we remain committed to quality over quantity, ensuring that each new space feels like ours."
Advice to women entering the beauty/wellness industry?
"Start with a clear vision, stay consistent, and build a strong network around you. It might not always be easy, but passion and persistence truly do pay off. So, take up space in the industry; your perspective is valuable."
Something you wish you’d learned earlier?
"To trust my gut. You can get a lot of noise and advice from others, but no one knows your brand like you do."
Next step for SKH Beauty?
"Expanding the wellness experience under one roof, combining advanced clinical treatments with yoga, holistic therapies, and a beautiful community space."
Sumera & SKH Beauty's story is inspiring, and we hope it serves as motivation for our community.
