In-House Team Training: One-Day Waxing Masterclass with Paige Pemberton
“Time pressure can be a big thing in this industry. Obviously, we’ve got to make our treatments financially viable with our time.”
Paige Pemberton discusses this balancing act and more in our most recent candid interview. Sharing why she loves in-house training, how she tailors each session to the needs of individual students, and the lessons she’s learned throughout her career.
For those who may not know, Paige is one of our incredible LYCON trainers, a waxer known for the phrase “the science behind the spatula”. With over a decade in the beauty industry, she’s also the proud owner of Waxing Perfection, along with a variety of industry awards.
Paige’s Imperfect Road to “Waxing Perfection”
You wouldn’t have thought that redundancy and a global pandemic would be the perfect recipe for success, but that’s exactly what pushed Paige’s decision to go it alone. And five years on, she’s thriving.
"In 2020, following the first lockdown, the salon I was working at unfortunately went into liquidation, and we were all made redundant. That’s when Waxing Perfection and my small business were born."
The Passion Behind The Business:
Paige’s passion for waxing started long before the dream of owning her own business.
Like many of her students, Paige remembers a time when she was asking,
“Okay, who can I get as models to practice on?”
But quickly found her feet and always has a waitlist of clients eager to book in.
In fact, when she started her business, most of her clientele came from referrals and clients from her previous salon. These word-of-mouth recommendations are one of the things Paige attributes to her success.
Another is her choice of wax. Paige came across Lycon in one of the salons she was working for early on.
“I've come across many different waxes over the years, both at different colleges I've worked at, beauty shows that I've been to, and salons that I've worked at. And Lycon, in my opinion, really is next level. It’s just fantastic for creating the most thorough and I’m going to say pain-free wax that there is.”
Making her choice easy when an in-salon training opportunity presented itself, giving her a way to share her expertise as a wax specialist.
What is In-House Training?
You might have heard about our introduction to Lycon training, but what exactly is in-house training?
Our in-house training course, also known as in-salon training, is a personalised session where one of our expert trainers, such as Paige, visits your salon for a full day of custom Lycon wax training. (Paige covers the Midlands area).
Providing a waxing masterclass that becomes a really personal session, even from the initial conversation. Paige reaches out beforehand to understand the salon’s needs and the students’ goals.
“I always ring the salon beforehand and arrange just a 10-minute chat with the manager. It helps me introduce myself, get a feel for the therapists I’ll be training, their current ability, and anything they’d like to focus on.”
For Paige, visiting new locations and meeting new therapists is a joy that allows her to share her passion for waxing with fresh faces. Yet, she also sees huge benefits for therapists training in their own spaces.
“They’re in the rooms they work in every day. They’re with familiar colleagues. They’ve got the wax trolley they’ll be using day-to-day. By coming into the salon, I’m able to break that barrier straight away so we can hit the ground running.”
Having everyone in a familiar environment helps set the tone for a relaxed, productive day of learning.
The Personalised Focus:
This training is tailored to the needs of each salon and therapist, covering everything from hot wax application techniques to male grooming. However, Paige explains that in-house training often focuses on intimate waxing, a topic not always covered in depth during the standard curriculum. As a result, some therapists may lack practical experience or confidence in this area.
(Paige will also be able to offer Male Intimate In-House training session later this year, our other trainers can accommodate this if required sooner)
Drawing from her early days as a therapist battling the clock with the timing of her intimate wax sessions, Paige ensures that her students focus on technique and confidence rather than how long they should be taking to complete something.
“My first Hollywood wax took at least an hour and a half."
"That’s the difference practice makes, and that’s what I want to pass on to therapists in my sessions.”
Driving home the techniques so that students are confident with the process, speed will come.
The Core Training Covered With Paige:
While each in-salon or in-house training session is tailored to the specific needs of the salon, there are core areas Paige always ensures are covered:
Pre and post care
- Consultations – new clients vs returning clients
- Contraindications
- Types of Lycon waxes and their uses
- Unique selling points of Lycon
- Techniques with Lycon hot wax
- Custom demonstrations
- Health, safety, and hygiene best practices
- Custom practical training – hands-on experience for each student
- Overview of alternative hair removal methods and how they can impact the waxing process
- Social media –
Paige, who has built her entire presence through social media without relying on a website, shares why salons should boost online visibility and strengthen their brand. She also reminds students how intimidating it can feel to book a treatment with someone unfamiliar, particularly for intimate waxing.
- Every session also includes a dedicated Q&A segment for the final 30minutes of Paige's training, giving students the chance to revisit areas of concern, gain extra practice, and leave the training feeling confident and supported.
Pursuing Perfect, Feedback & Mentorship:
Part of her training plan is inspired by her own mentor, her boss, and, coincidentally, a Lycon trainer, which she recognises as a very lucky experience. Reflection and feedback have become a cornerstone of Paige’s approach, allowing her to gauge each training session and make adjustments.
“I always encourage feedback. Every day’s a school day, and we always learn from each session to make sure it’s as tailored as possible.”
Now taking on the role of mentor herself, Paige loves seeing her students’ careers grow. She makes it clear that her support doesn’t end with the training day, leaving the door open for ongoing guidance whenever it’s needed. Paige checks in with students throughout the day, during sessions, breaks, and before wrapping up, and encourages feedback afterwards to ensure everyone gets the most out of their training.
“Whether it’s 6 days, 6 months, or 6 years down the line. If there’s anything you want to pick my brains over, I’m always on the other end of the phone. Most of my students connect with me on Instagram too, so we can follow each other’s waxing journeys. It’s so great to see them take their careers to the next level.”

How Our LYCON In-House Training Works:
Training is typically available within an hour and a half's distance of the trainer’s location, but arrangements can be made for salons further afield with all of our Lycon trainers including Paige. Who is based in the Midlands.
A standard training day accommodates up to four therapists, but again all our trainers can extend this to seven students as an add-on. For larger teams, the training can be split across two days to ensure each participant receives focused attention. Which can also be arranged for the smaller teams if necessary to the students and training focus.
In-house training is typically scheduled between 10 am–5 pm or 9 am–4 pm.
Why In-House is the Best Option for Some Salons
“When I speak to salon owners, they’re always on board with in-salon training. If they have four or more therapists, it’s far easier and more cost-efficient for me to come to them. They’re not losing a full day in the salon; they can still see some clients, even in the evening. So it works really well from both a time and cost perspective.”
Much like Paige’s business model, many salons have custom operating hours that don’t fit into the standard 9 am – 5 pm. This means they can often still benefit from seeing clients in the evening, or even avoid losing a full business day while still completing a full training session for the team on an alternative day. Paige’s training days usually run from Thursday to Sunday, with our other trainers available to accommodate different days during the week.

Final Questions for Paige
What do you hope people take from your training?
“At the end of the training session, I want my students to feel confident and ready to be able to go and do their Lycon treatments.”
Paige went on to give examples of modifications she has shared with students during the 30–40 minutes at the end of training to help them reach that comfortable, confident stage. She also shared a very interesting example of a specific client she has had, which really brings home why this training is so relevant when delivered by someone still active in the industry.
Why do you love Lycon?
“Lycon Wax is something I feel very strongly about. If we can offer a treatment that removes hair from the root as comfortably as possible, with minimal downtime, then I’m all for it. I really do feel that Lycon is a cut above the rest.”
