Gemma's Journey: LYCON student to trainer
Every beauty therapist has a defining moment that shapes the course of their career.
For Gemma, that moment came in 2012 during her very first LYCON training course. She arrived expecting to learn a new waxing technique but left with something far more valuable: a renewed sense of purpose and a vision for where her career could go.
Watching her trainer travel across the UK, educating therapists and sharing her passion for not only LYCON but the entire beauty industry, sparked something in Gemma. For the first time, she found herself thinking, "I want that job." At the time, it was simply a dream. Years later, when LYCON UK announced they were looking for new training affiliates, she decided to take the chance.

"I saw that Lycon were looking for more training affiliates on Instagram and thought go shoot your shot. I applied was successful in the first stage so headed to London to meet the others and began my training journey I believe I manifested it into happening."
Today, Gemma is doing exactly what once inspired her, helping therapists build their confidence, master the LYCON techniques and develop the skills they will use throughout their careers.
Discovering the LYCON Difference
Long before she became a trainer, Gemma experienced LYCON from the client's perspective.
Like many others, waxing had been something she endured rather than enjoyed. However, her first LYCON treatment completely changed that perception.
"The quality immediately stood out to me. LYCON delivers incredible results while being much gentler on the skin compared to many traditional wax systems. I loved how professional the brand felt and how much client comfort was prioritised. As a wax client before working with Lycon my own experience felt like a treatment not a tortuous appointment I dreaded each month."
Trusted by professional therapists around the world, LYCON is renowned for its superior grip on hairs as short as 1 mm while remaining incredibly gentle on the skin. It is also up to 50% less painful than many traditional waxing systems. Paired with its professional pre-wax and post-wax care products, every appointment feels luxurious rather than routine.
For Gemma, choosing to represent the brand was an easy decision.
"I love representing a brand I genuinely believe in. LYCON aligns perfectly with my standards, values and passion for quality treatments and education. It’s a brand that empowers therapists to deliver premium results confidently."

More Than Teaching Technique
Ask Gemma what her favourite element about training is and she won't immediately talk about waxing.
She talks about self assurance.
Every course brings together therapists with different levels of experience. Some are just beginning their careers, while others are looking to refine their existing skills or expand their treatment menu. Regardless of where they are in their journey, Gemma's goal is always the same: to help every student believe in their own abilities.
"Watching students grow in confidence is the best part. Some arrive nervous and doubting themselves, and by the end of training they’re performing treatments confidently and feeling proud of their abilities. Seeing students go on to open their own salons or training academies is incredibly rewarding for me I feel so proud at times."
That transformation is the most rewarding aspect of education.
Many of Gemma's former students have progressed within their careers by opening their own salons, creating their own salons or even becoming educators themselves.
"Hearing that I’ve helped someone believe in themselves means everything to me. Some of my proudest moments are seeing students open their own businesses after training with me. Knowing I played a small part in their journey is incredibly special."

Why Professional Training Matters
In today's beauty industry standards have become higher and clients expect a great deal more. They expect professionalism, knowledge and exceptional standards of care.
For Gemma, professional training offers therapists far more than practical skills. It provides the confidence, technical ability and expertise needed to deliver safe, consistent and premium treatments every time.
"Technique is everything. Professional training ensures therapists understand hygiene, client care, skin preparation, product knowledge and correct removal techniques. It protects both the therapist and the client while creating better long-term results."
These foundations are embedded into every LYCON training course, ensuring therapists leave with the practical ability, confidence and understanding to deliver exceptional treatments throughout their careers.

Creating a Positive Learning Environment
One of the main qualities students notice about Gemma is her warm and supportive approach.
Every course combines hands-on practical training with essential theory, allowing students to ask as many questions as possible. It creates an environment where they feel comfortable making mistakes, refining their techniques and building confidence with the right level of support.
"My courses are supportive, hands on and confidence building. I focus heavily on technique, professionalism and mindset because I truly believe confidence changes everything in this industry. I want students to leave feeling capable, motivated and excited about their future careers."
For Gemma, education isn't about creating a flawless therapist overnight. It's about giving each individual the knowledge, encouragement and practical experience they require to continue flourishing long after the course has finished.
Raising Standards Across the Industry
As the beauty industry is evolving at such a rapid speed, so are clients expectations.
Today's clients are more informed than ever before and rightly expect impeccable hygiene, excellent technique and professional experience throughout the duration of their treatment and experience.
"It’s essential. Clients are more educated than ever and expect high standards. Cleanliness, professionalism and correct technique build trust and client loyalty. These are standards I strongly reinforce throughout all my training."
By maintaining these standards, therapists are able protect themselves and their clients, while building a positive reputation and a strengthened long term business.

The future of professional waxing is something that genuinely excites Gemma.
As education continues to improve across the industry, especially within professional waxing, she is seeing more therapists that are recognising the greater benefits of specialised training.
She's particularly excited about growing her training academy, located in Motherwell. This space was designed with her future students in mind, designed to support beauty professionals develop both technically and personally.
"Education and standards within the industry are continuing to rise, which is amazing to see. I’m especially excited about growing my new training school in Motherwell and creating a positive learning environment where therapists feel encouraged, supported and inspired to succeed."
It's a vision that aligns with both Gemma's style of teaching and LYCON's commitment to adhering to the rising standards across the beauty industry.
After all, every successful therapists start somewhere.
