Introducing Ami from @amilouisebeauty in Huddersfield!

Ami has been talking with us over the past week about her journey to LYCON and self-employment —something we have been eager to celebrate!

Her journey began during a time when many were re-evaluating their priorities post-pandemic. Ami took the chance to become self-employed in 2021, impressively quick. After having her second child in July of the previous year. This meant she had to learn to manage self-employment while caring for her baby daughter and her three-year-old son. It’s quite a challenge for anyone, and I’m sure many can relate!

She started in the care sector. Yet, becoming a mother caused her to re-think. The hours of care work became less suitable for her schedule. Making it difficult for her to give 100% to her children. A familiar struggle for many mothers across various industries.

So, how did Ami come to set up solo?

Being a regular client can give you more than you might think. Familiarity and a genuine connection with people can leak into other aspects of your life. She saw an advertisement in her regular salon -The Beauty Lounge. They were looking for a beauty therapist to join them on a self-employed basis. Inspired, she decided to dive in and get her training and apply.

Safe to say SHE GOT THE JOB and currently works as a self-employed therapist at the salon.

Where does LYCON fit into this?

A challenge she faced was getting more hands-on experience. With many training programs online due to the continued complications of the pandemic. Ami felt a lack of personal tutoring. Forcing her to seek additional resources and practice. Leading her to LYCON in April 2024. She discovered our range of courses that provide a mix of theory and practical training. Perfect!

Isn't that the most important part of training? Pushing yourself to see you can accomplish something until you become confident enough to know you can. Eventually, there’s more evidence that you can do it than, evidence you can't.

Within the salon @thebeautylounge, Ami offers a variety of beauty treatments and prides herself on using the highest quality brands available, including Lycon Waxing.

Ami's dedication to bettering her position, environment, and herself as a therapist who wants to give the best to her clients is inspiring.
